Competition Week Day 5: Coolest Character Concept!
almost 7 years ago – Sun, May 14, 2017 at 10:46:50 AM

Hey folks! Before we get down and dirty with the next competition I thought it was time to summarise exactly what you're getting at each pledge level, and roughly how much you're saving over the estimated retail prices! Not bad eh? If you were considering bumping up to the next pledge level, but wondering if it was worth it or not, maybe now is the time?

Also, feel free to share this with any friends of yours who have decided to wait for retail rather than back at Kickstarter- it really is worth it!

Competition 5: Character concept!

Who can come up with the coolest idea for a character, who will appear somewhere in the world fluff?!  This won't be a miniature, so you can really let your imagination run wild with a non-combat character here.

 A couple of restrictions here.

  • First, like the location concept, keep it under 5 sentences.
  • Second, stick to one of the existing races please (save your species ideas for later... *ahem*!).
  • Third, write a character, not an entire culture! Keep mostly focused on the person and their immediate situation, rather than trying to write a whole society around them :).

As previously, to win comment below with your entry. Have at it!

Just a few more days now...

There are still a few stretch goals we can break! For example, who doesn't want to see Kaneda on a Mantis unlocked before the campaign ends?! Might even be another dino in the sidelines too!
So now really is the time to post on forums about the project, forward this mail to your friends, head on over to Twitter and Facebook and do all that lovely social media liking, commenting (especially important on Facebook!) and of course sharing!

All being well, I'll have a cool announcement tomorrow which a few people have been asking about. It's early days for it really, but that just makes it all the better for you folks!

Last off, live sculpting tomorrow night- we'll catch up with that Kaneda on a Mantis sculpt further down the line. Exciting!

New! All In Pledge Level! Plus live sculpting tonight.
almost 7 years ago – Sun, May 14, 2017 at 10:26:50 AM

Good morning folks! We're closing in on the last 48 hours now, and it's time to make that announcement I discussed!

Master Builder Pledge Level

For the completionists amongst you, this one represents some pretty outstanding value I would say! It also includes any additional stretch goals we might unlock from now till the end of the campaign on Tuesday- so if you pledge its in your interests to get as much stuff unlocked as possible! :D.

Livsculpting tonight!

I'll have the next competition announcement for you this afternoon, and don't forget we will be live streaming the sculpting with James W Cain at 7:30BST tonight on our youtube channel. Here is the URL, although I'll send it out to everyone as previously this evening:

Competition Week Day 3, and the Day 1 Winner!
almost 7 years ago – Fri, May 12, 2017 at 04:41:21 PM

What's next in Competition week?

How many of you fine folks are feeling creative hmmm? This category is pretty wide open- it must be a 2D work of art, but it can be anything from a sketch or drawing to map or logo design. I'll simply pick the thing I like the best!

Rather a nice prize eh? Because you literally can't have too many Yuttaraptors! As with the Proxy Mini competition, simply send me a PM and I'll give you the email address to send it to (don't want to get picked on by spambots by posting it here!).

Coolest Location Winner!

Well this was REALLY tough to judge. So many good entries. A few great entries got eliminated because they weren't quite on-target in terms of the canon, which is to be expected with the limited amount of fluff at the moment.

An honourable mention goes out to Olof Johnson and Peter Wright who's spacelift ideas were so cool I'd thought of something quite similar already! Skyfall Peninsula. The same goes for Jay O'Bedlam who's idea of a facility dedicated to copying down knowledge through unreliable computer sources is much like the Onyx Research Lab run by Alophangus Playdge, an uplifted panda who will be narrating the rulebook :D.

There were so many good entries many of them could have won against weaker competition. I decided to announce two runners up, and one main winner- all three ideas will go in to Ulaya.

Runners Up:

  • Shawn Galligan- for his Skyship City concept.
  • Matt Liguori- for his Iron Mountain concept.

And The Winner:

Joshua A. Hatch- for his Frozen Tunnels concept: a network of ice encrusted tunnels, at the centre of which is still operating machine, spreading cold throughout the tunnel network, and seeming very strange and alien indeed in a world where ice is almost completely unknown.

Thank you so much to all who entered.

Don't worry, Choose Your Own Adventurer is coming later today!

Competition Week Day 4: Film a Playthrough Vid!
almost 7 years ago – Fri, May 12, 2017 at 04:40:52 PM

Post it up on Youtube, and comment below with the link. Who will be first to get their standees printed or proxies ready!?

The winner will get a hard copy print of the Beta rules, signed by me! I got a few rather pretty looking books printed, just for the playtesters and demos really, but I still have a few precious copies, and you could win one! After all, anyone who's up and playing already deserves to do so in style, right?! :D

Thunderclap are Go!

Ahem! Grammar! Anyway, some of you might have already joined up to the Thunderclap, but for those who haven't, there's a prize to be won!

https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/56503-the-drowned-earth-final-push

The prize is an extra crew of your choice, to be added to your existing pledge level. This could be the Wayfarers faction too, if you've gone for the Drowned pledge level! Exciting! If you join with both Facebook AND Twitter you double your chances.

Thanks guys! I'm preparing a rather fun announcement over the weekend- something which will interest at least a few of you. In the meantime, keep dry!

Competition week Day 2! Best Proxy Miniature!
almost 7 years ago – Thu, May 11, 2017 at 02:53:26 AM

Just a quick update today. It's Wednesday, and the final episode of Choose Your Own Adventurer should be up right? Yes, it certainly should, but I'm going to have to update you all tomorrow instead. Sorry!

However, I can announce the next competition, which is a rather fun one, and because it's quite involved, this time you have until the end of the campaign (5pm BST, Tuesday 16th).

The prize is a copy of the Wayfarers faction! Cool huh?! :D

 .

How to Enter

I'm aware that you can't post pictures on here. Instead, when you have an entry ready to post, sent me a PM here on Kickstarter and I'll send you an email address you can send the picture to. I'll post all the entries as an update after the campaign, and announce the winner shortly.

Ok ok, whats a proxy? Well, If you want to start playing TDE right now, it's very simple. All you need to play is on the website in the Downloads section.

However, a lot of people just don't like using paper standees. So you can use stand-in's instead! That is, models from another system which you've altered, painted or converted to look like characters from The Drowned Earth!

Points will be given for:

  • Quality of paint job
  • How much the model looks like the character it is proxying
  • any converting or alteration work you've gone to to make it look suitable for TDE
  • Cool, and world-suitable basing

There's no formula- I'll pick out the one I think is the coolest, taking the above in to consideration.

Don't forget to tell me which model it is a proxy of! :D
